Hans Peter Walter

Hans Peter Walter (born November 30, 1944 in Burgdorf BE ) is a Swiss legal scholar .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1963, Walter studied at the University of Bern from 1963 to 1969 . From 1969 to 1986 he ran a law firm in Bern and from 1979 to 1986 was a member of the board of the Bern Bar Association. From 1982 to 1984 he was a city ​​councilor in Bern for the FDP . From 1984 to 2002 he was a judge at the Swiss Federal Supreme Court , initially as a substitute judge and in 2001/2002 as President of the Federal Supreme Court. From 1988 to 2000 he was also a lecturer at the University of Zurich and from 1997 to 1999 at the University of Freiburg. In 1997 the University of Bern awarded him an honorary doctorate . From March 2004 until his retirement in January 2010, he was professor of private and commercial law at the Civil Studies Department at the University of Bern.
