Hans Reiter (mathematician)

Hans Jakob Reiter (born November 26, 1921 in Vienna ; † August 13, 1992 ) was an Austrian mathematician.

After the Anschluss , Hans Reiter had to leave his hometown before graduating from high school . Via Italy he reached Brazil, where he studied with André Weil . In 1952 he received his doctorate from Rice University in Houston with Szolem Mandelbrojt . Since 1952 assistant at the University of Vienna and 1971 after various stays abroad, including from 1964 to 1971 as a professor at the University of Utrecht , in Vienna professor .

He wrote the standard work " Classical Harmonic Analysis and Locally Compact Groups ".
