Life

Riemer was born the son of a leather worker. He attended school in Vienna and completed a commercial apprenticeship. In 1918 he joined the socialist youth workers, rose to the position of local group chairman and was chairman of the Vienna regional organization from 1922 to 1926. In 1922 Josef Luitpold Stern took him to the Socialist Education Center, where he set up the department for photography and film and headed it until 1932. Between 1932 and 1934 Riemer worked as secretary of the social democratic local council and the Austrian association of cities. In his last position, Riemer was also the editor of the "Österreichische Gemeinde-Zeitung".

After the Social Democratic Party was banned, Riemer worked as a civil servant at Wiener Städtische Versicherung between 1934 and 1943. He was subsequently committed to military service and returned in 1945 from a brief American captivity. As a result, he took over the office of press officer of the City of Vienna and was again appointed General Secretary of the Austrian Association of Cities in 1948. Riemer, who held this office until 1957, was also a member of the Federal Council between December 5, 1949 and July 5, 1956, where he was chairman between January 1, 1955 and June 30, 1955. On April 13, 1956, Riemer took over the function of the official city councilor for personnel matters, administrative and operational reform in the state government of Jonas II . Riemer continued to hold office in the subsequent Jonas III government until he died in office in 1963. In addition, from December 11, 1959 until his death, Riemer was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council.

After his death, Riemer was buried in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 14C, No. 25).
