Hans Rudolph of Gemmingen

Hans Rudolph von Gemmingen (* 1584 ; † July 26, 1637 in Groß Sonntag ) was the Land Commander of the Teutonic Order in Austria .

Life

He was a son of Hans Jakob von Gemmingen (1553–1622) and Barbara von Breitenlandenburg from the Steinegg line of the barons of Gemmingen . At that time, the family line had ramified and Hans Rudolph's father was hardly wealthy, so that Hans Rudolph, like many of his close relatives, embarked on a spiritual career. He was made Knight of the Teutonic Order in Ellingen and invested in 1612. The German master transferred him from the Ballei Franken to Austria, where from 1616 he worked as administrator of the Ballei Austria and the commanderies Groß Sonntag and Wien to improve the broken conditions of the order in Austria. In 1619 he was appointed governor and in 1623 land commander. In 1625 he took in Vienna for the high and German masters of Emperor Ferdinand II. The feud over the Hochmeistertum in Prussia contrary.
