Hans Scheibner (cyclist)

Hans Scheibner (born August 3, 1939 in Wildenfels ) is a former cyclist who was successful in GDR sport in the 1960s . He then became a coach in cycling. His learned profession was a miner.

Athletic career

In 1954 Scheibner started to run cycling as a road driver organized for the company sports association (BSG) Lokomotive Zwickau. When the carrier operating the ESR, the Reichsbahn repair shop in Zwickau , he worked as a wheelwright. As a special talent he was delegated to SC Dynamo Berlin at the end of the 1950s .

In 1960 Scheibner took part in the elimination race for the all-German road team at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Tokyo , but could not qualify. As a member of the SC Dynamo, the first notable successes came from 1961. Scheibner was GDR champion in the 100 km team race three times in a row from 1961 to 1963. After he had achieved 5th place in the GDR Tour in 1961 (in 1959 he was the best young rider in this race), he was nominated by the GDR Cycling Association for the road world championship in Bern, where he was eliminated early. He was more successful in the stage race Internationale Friedensfahrt , which was held in 1962 from East Berlin via Prague to Warsaw . In the overall individual ranking he reached 9th place and was second best of five placed GDR drivers behind Klaus Ampler (7th). Scheibner contested his last big race in 1964 at the Tour of Morocco . Although he won the 10th stage, he could not place in the top ten in the final classification.

Professional

In 1965 Scheibner began studying coaching at the sports school in Bad Blankenburg and then worked at SC Dynamo Berlin, initially as a youth coach, before becoming the head coach of the cycling section of the sports club. In 1976 he was dismissed after differences with the GDR sports management at SC Dynamo and then turned away from sports for a long time. It wasn't until 2000 that his former coaching colleague Werner Otto was able to persuade him to return to the coaching business. Since then, Scheibner has looked after the young cyclists at the Berlin Sports Club .
