Hans Schmidt-Gorsblock

Hans Schmidt-Gorsblock (born September 14, 1889 on the Gorsblock farm near Lügumkloster ; † March 18, 1982 North Schleswig , Denmark ) was a native poet of the German minority in Denmark , author , editor and farmer .

life and work

Hans Schmidt-Gorsblock came from the Gorsblock farm near the Lügumkloster . In 1911 he passed his teacher examination at the seminar in Tondern and initially worked as a teacher in Norburg on the island of Alsen. After his two brothers were killed in World War I , he took over his parents' farm Gorsblock. He also taught at the one-class school in Arrild . During this time, numerous essays and stories were written, mainly on North Schleswig topics. In 1930 he became editor of the German People's Calendar for North Schleswig. Together with his friend, German graphic artist and painter A. Paul Weber , he shaped this publication.

After the end of World War II in 1945, Schmidt-Gorsblock was a co-signatory of the founding declaration of the Bund Deutscher Nordschleswiger, the new umbrella organization of the German minority in Denmark, in which the minority made a declaration of loyalty to the Danish royal family, the state and the German-Danish border. He was one of the leading representatives of the minority who, after the collapse in 1945, worked and fought for the cohesion and continued existence of the German minority in North Schleswig with speeches, written statements and lectures. Hans Schmidt-Gorsblock has written and edited a large number of books of prose and poetry .
