Hans Schmitz (politician)

Hans Schmitz (born December 10, 1896 in Godesberg , † January 8, 1986 in Zurich ) was a German CDU politician and member of the German Bundestag .

Hans Schmitz was a businessman. In 1925 he opened a specialty fabrics store in Bonn and in the next few years up to 1932 set up branches in Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Dortmund and Cologne. In 1938 he founded a textile wholesaler and in 1945 a manufacturing company. From 1947 to 1952 and again from 1966 to 1970 he was President of the IHK Bonn. From 1947 to 1966 he was also President of the German Retail Trade. Both organizations appointed him honorary president after the end of his term of office.

Political activity

Schmitz ran for the CDU in 1949 in the Rheydt – Mönchengladbach – Viersen constituency , was directly elected with 37.4% of the votes and thus belonged to the first German Bundestag. He was no longer represented in parliament for the next legislative period.
