Hans Seper

Hans Seper (born October 18, 1924 ; † September 13, 2004 in Vienna ) was an Austrian technical historian, former curator of the department for road vehicles and deputy director of the Vienna Technical Museum .

Life

As heavy Disabled Veterans of the Second World War Hans Seper studied at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1948 for Dr. phil. In 1957 he was appointed curator of the road vehicle department of the Vienna Technical Museum . In this role he built up the great collection of early Austrian automobiles and motorcycles. His intensive research on Siegfried Marcus and his numerous publications brought him notoriety and recognition far beyond the borders of Austria.

In 1968, in “Back when the horses shied”, he first published the documents that destroyed the myth of the construction of the second Marcus car in 1875 (and thus before Daimler and Benz ) and the year of construction 1888 for the engine and 1889 (or later ) proved for the chassis.

Hans Seper was awarded the Silver Merit for the Republic of Austria for his scientific work . He was buried at the Stammersdorfer Zentralfriedhof (group 43, row 23, number 21).
