Hans Seyboth

Hans Seyboth, 1899

Hans Seyboth , actually Johannes Ernst Seyboth (born June 15 . Jul / 27. June  1864 greg. In Riga ; † 20th November 1938 ibid), was a Baltic chess composer and writer. Around 1900 he was considered the strongest chess amateur in Saint Petersburg . So he shared 3rd – 4th grade with Carl Behting . Prize in the main tournament of the 1st Congress of the Baltic Chess Federation .

Life

Seyboth studied mathematics in Dorpat . From 1890 to 1918 he was a teacher at the St. Petri secondary school in St. Petersburg. From October 1895 he headed the weekly chess column of the St. Petersburg newspaper for many years . Seyboth returned to Riga to the 13th elementary school via Dorpat and was its director from 1928.

Seyboth composed some studies, some with an endgame character .
