Hans Steffan

Hans Steffan (born November 15, 1877 in Vienna , † July 7, 1939 in Berlin ) was an Austrian engineer and locomotive designer.

life and work

Hans Steffan attended the State Realschule in Vienna, later the Technical University . After completing his studies, he joined the StEG locomotive factory as a locomotive designer in 1900 and was most recently technical director or "board member of the design office" until the plant was closed in 1930.

From 1905 to 1938 he was, at times together with Ernst Prossy , editor of the magazine " Die Lokomotive ". Prossy wrote an obituary for Steffan on page 138 in the 1939 year of this magazine.

As locomotive designers, Steffan and Prossy were the creators of the series 109 of the Südbahngesellschaft .
