Hans Steger (Mayor)

Hans Steger (* around 1398, † around 1460 in Vienna ) was an Austrian landowner and politician. He was mayor of Vienna three times .

Life

Steger can be found in Vienna from 1418. He was a businessman and housemate in Vienna . Between 1422 and 1457 he held various municipal offices in the city of Vienna without major interruptions. He was knighted on January 1, 1438 on the occasion of the election of Duke Albrecht V as King of Hungary . He was mayor of Vienna a total of three times in the years 1434 to 1439, 1443 and 1447 to 1449. As mayor, in 1435 he had the walls reinforced to secure the city of Vienna. In 1439 the first bridge was built under him, which led continuously over the still heavily branched Danube .

He was married three times. Steger was buried in St. Stephen's Cathedral, the tombstone was found in 1886 by the Agnes Altar.
