Hans Steininger

Hans Steininger (born August 1, 1920 in Breslau ; † September 16, 1990 in Würzburg ) was a German sinologist and university professor .

biography

Steininger founded the Institute for Cultural Studies of East and South Asia of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Würzburg , which he also headed as a full professor at the Department of Philology of the Far East ( Sinology ) from 1965 until his retirement in 1986. His specialty was Chinese philosophy, in particular Confucianism and Daoism .

Steininger, the addition from 1966 to 1975, first as part of a teaching assignment , then as Chair representatives of Chinese Studies at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg worked, the extensive collection of Chinese literature left with around 3,000 volumes of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where in the "Steininger Library “can be scientifically researched.
