The Schwarzach Brewery was a private Austrian brewery in Schwarzach im Pongau . It was founded in 1847 by Prince Archbishop Cardinal Schwarzenberg and has been owned by the Seeber family for eleven generations. The Schwarzach brewery has been closed since 2008.

It was one of Austria's small breweries , but its Tauerngold brand was particularly well known in western and southwestern Austria. The beer was produced exclusively in the traditional way, which also includes storage and maturation in natural cellars.

history

The brewery founded by Prince Archbishop Cardinal Schwarzenberg in the high-altitude Schernberg Castle in Goldegg (Salzburg) was first mentioned in a document in 1847. So that the beer could be sold more quickly, it was relocated to the centrally located Urfahrgrund in the municipality of Schwarzach im Pongau in 1859. At the same time, the Seeber family of brewers from South Tyrol came into the possession of the episcopal beer brewery and ran it for eleven generations until 2008. In 1972 the Seeber family had a new brewhouse built in response to the growing beer consumption. Along with the increase in production made possible by this, the small company expanded the sale of its "Tauerngold" brand beyond regional borders to the area of western Austria. At the end of January 2008, the Schwarzach brewery ceased production.

Products and sales

The annual output of the private brewery was last around 26,000 hectoliters (2001) with a draft beer share of 72%. The products of the Schwarzach brewery were sold under the brand names TauernGold and cools . The brewery also produced six types of lemonade under the Claro brand .

For environmental reasons, the company refrained from filling the products in cans and PET bottles.

Attached to the brewery was an inn with a garden overgrown with wild wine, in which the beer brewed next door could be consumed with other products from the region.

Awards

The Tauerngold beers have been awarded 18 gold medals by Monde Selection , a globally recognized testing institution, most recently in 2005.
