Hans Thomissøn

Hans Thomissøn (born March 1, 1532 in Hygum , † September 22, 1573 in Copenhagen ; also Hans Thomesen , Hans Thomissön ) was a Danish Lutheran theologian .

Life

Hans Thomissøn was born as the son of pastor Thomas Knudsen Thomissøn on March 1, 1532 in Hygum. He moved to the University of Copenhagen to study theology. In 1553 he went to Wittenberg to become court master of three young aristocrats. Therefore, he continued his studies at the university there and obtained the degree of a master's degree in 1556 . The following year he was at a school as a teacher in Ribe set, where he also began hymns to write poetry. In 1561 he came to the Vor Frue Kirke in Copenhagen as pastor . A short time later he was also appointed provost . The hymn book from 1569, privately edited by him , which contained several of his own songs, soon became widely distributed in the Danish Empire. Thomissøn died on September 22, 1573 at the age of 41.
