Hans Thybo (born February 19, 1954 in Aarhus ) is a Danish geoscientist. He is Vice President of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences . From April 2015 to April 2017 he was President of the European Geosciences Union , currently, like from 2014 to 2015, he is its Vice-President.

Since 2001, Hans Thybo has been Professor of Geophysics at the University of Copenhagen . His dismissal by the university management at the end of 2016 provoked protests from numerous scientists. In 2004 he became a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a full member of the Academia Europaea . In 2010 he was elected a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences .

Thybo has studied the tectonics of most continents, but mainly that of Europe. He was z. B. involved in the research project TOPO-EUROPE.
