Hans Vöcking

Hans Vöcking WV (born February 15, 1940 in Gronau, Westphalia ) is a German religious and scholar of Islam.

Life

After attending elementary school in Gronau, Hans Vöcking completed a commercial apprenticeship and then graduated from high school. He studied at the religious school of the White Fathers in Trier philosophy and the Belgian Lion Catholic theology . After Vöcking had joined the Mission Society of the White Fathers and had been ordained a priest, he went to Algeria in 1970 to study Arabic and Islamic studies , to Rome in 1971 and back to Algeria in 1973.

In 1974 Hans Vöcking became head of a documentation center for development policy issues in Oran (Algeria). From 1978 he headed the Christian-Islamic meeting and documentation center (CIBEDO) newly founded by the White Fathers in Frankfurt / Main for 20 years ; As a specialist unit of the German Bishops' Conference since 1998, it has promoted inter-religious dialogue and the coexistence of Christians and Muslims. From 1998 he taught at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic Studies in Rome.

Hans Vöcking was approved by the 2002 Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community as a consultant and as an expert for the Christian-Islamic dialogue of Brussels called. Hans Vöcking has lived in Cologne since 2013. For his contribution to the promotion of Christian-Muslim dialogue in Germany and in Europe, he was the most April 29, 2014 Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy and Theology College Vallendar (PThv) of Pallottiner awarded in October 2014, the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
