Hans Wastl

Hans Wastl (born August 1, 1916 in Neufeld an der Leitha ; † March 1, 1986 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and carpenter. Wastl was a member of the Federal Council , 2nd President of the Burgenland Landtag, Regional Councilor and member of the National Council . Wastl was married.

Wastl was born as the son of foreman Franz Wastl from Neufeld. The father had a fatal accident in 1925. After primary school in Neufeld an der Leitha, Wastl attended the local secondary school and then learned the trade of carpenter, where he attended the commercial school through correspondence courses between 1938 and 1939. Wastl had already served in the Federal Army in 1937, and between 1939 and 1945 he was deployed in the Wehrmacht during the Second World War . Wastl was wounded several times and was a Soviet prisoner of war for five months.

After the end of the war, Wastl worked from May 1, 1946 as the state secretary of the Free Trade Association in Burgenland, and between 1950 and 1960 he was state party secretary of the SPÖ Burgenland. In 1964 Wastl moved to the Burgenland Regional Health Insurance Fund (BGKK) and was director of the BGKK between September 1, 1965 and December 31, 1975. In 1974 Wastl was seriously injured in a traffic accident and in 1975 was appointed to the government council.

After the end of the Second World War, Wastl joined the SPÖ in 1945 and became local party chairman of the SPÖ-Neufeld an der Leitha. He represented the Burgenland SPÖ from November 4, 1949 to March 19, 1953 in the Federal Council and then moved to the Burgenland Landtag, where he held the office of 2nd Landtag President between March 19, 1953 and May 5, 1960. From July 27, 1960 to December 18, 1962, Wastl was Deputy Governor in the Burgenland provincial governments Wagner II and Lentsch . Wastl ended his political career as a national councilor, where he was a member from December 14, 1962. Wastl resigned from the National Council on May 5, 1964 by resigning his mandate.
