Hans Wellmann (politician, 1911)

Hans Wellmann (born September 6, 1911 in Berlin ; † May 30, 1969 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1962 until his death he was a member of the German Bundestag.

Life and work

After attending elementary and middle school, Wellmann completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer from 1927, which he completed with a journeyman's examination. He had been unionized since 1927, continued his education at the State Building Trade School and worked in the construction industry. From 1933 to 1939 he worked as a driver and electrical welder, from 1939 to 1945 as a technical employee in the aviation industry.

Wellmann worked from 1945 to 1949 as an employee in Berlin newspaper publishers. From 1955 to 1961 he acted as personal assistant to the presidents of the Berlin House of Representatives, Willy Brandt , Kurt Landsberg and Willy Henneberg . He then became personal advisor to the Governing Mayor of Berlin Willy Brandt.

Political party

Wellmann was a member of the Reichsbanner Black-Red-Gold from 1928 to 1933 . He joined the SPD in 1929, was elected to the district executive committee of the SPD Wilmersdorf after 1945 and was the party's political secretary from 1949 to 1955. He was also a member of the State Committee of the Berlin Social Democrats.

MP

Wellmann had been a district councilor in Berlin-Wilmersdorf since 1948 and was elected chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there in 1957. He was a member of the German Bundestag as a Berlin MP from January 1, 1962, when he replaced the retired MP Willy Brandt , until his death. In the fourth electoral term he was a full member of the Federal Committee on Economic Property and until November 1964 a deputy, then a full member of the Budget Committee. In the fifth electoral term he was again active as a full member of the Budget Committee, and also as a deputy member of the Defense Committee. Wellmann died on May 30, 1969, and MP Hellmut Sieglerschmidt succeeded him in parliament.
