Hans Widmann (politician)

Johann Georg "Hans" Widmann (born December 27, 1948 in Brixen ) is an Italian trade unionist, politician of the South Tyrolean People's Party and a publicist.

biography

Widmann was a functionary in the Autonomous South Tyrolean Trade Union Federation from 1970 until he was able to win a seat for the Italian Chamber of Deputies on the list of the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP) in the parliamentary elections in April 1992 . In the parliamentary elections of April 1994 , Widmann was re-elected in the single constituency of Brixen and confirmed in the parliamentary elections of April 1996 and May 2001 . In 1995 and 1996 he was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . In the 2006 parliamentary elections , Widmann, who was also deputy party chairman from 1998 to 2007, once again made it into the Chamber of Deputies in the multi-person constituency of Trentino-South Tyrol ; In 2008 he decided not to run and then worked as a freelance journalist. Widmann also works on a voluntary basis and is chairman of Lebenshilfe Südtirol.

In 2019 he was awarded honorary citizenship of his home parish Ratschings .
