Karl Flittner

Karl Flittner (born June 27, 1947 in Königswinter ) is a former German diplomat who was the last ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bamako ( Mali ) from August 2008 to August 2012 .

Life

Karl Flittner passed his Abitur in 1966. After military service, he studied from 1967 1972 Law . After the 1st state examination in law and the legal traineeship , he passed the 2nd state examination in 1975. Then Flittner joined the higher foreign service .

After training as an attaché at the diplomatic school in Bonn - Ippendorf from 1975 to 1977, Flittner was employed at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in New York from 1977 to 1981 after a brief assignment at the headquarters of the Foreign Office . From 1981 to 1984 he worked at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn, before he worked at the German embassy in Moscow from 1984 to 1987 .

From 1987 to 1991 Flittner headed the German embassy in Bujumbura ( Burundi ) before he was deputy head of division at the headquarters of the Foreign Office from 1991 to 1996. The next foreign assignment took him from 1996 to 2001 as Consul General in Geneva . From 2001 to 2008 Flittner was head of division at the Foreign Office in Berlin .

Since August 2008, Karl was Flittner ambassador he Federal Republic of Germany in Mali before it in July 2012 in the retirement occurred. His successor in August 2012 was Günter Overfeld , who was previously Vice President and Director for Regional Security of the East-West Institute (EWI) and head of the EWI's Brussels office.

Karl Flittner is married and has three children.
