Günter Overfeld

Günter Overfeld (born September 7, 1955 in Xanten ) is a German diplomat and has been ambassador to Uzbekistan since 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Overfeld began studying history and philosophy in 1974 , which he completed in 1980 with the first state examination. He then joined the Foreign Service in 1981 and, after completing his career examination for the higher foreign service, was employed at the Consulate General in Toronto in 1983 and then at the Embassy in Iran between 1986 and 1987 and then at the Embassy in Turkey until 1990 .

In 1990 Overfeld became a consultant at the Foreign Office and was deputy head of unit there between 1993 and 1996 , before he was consul general in Ho Chi Minh City from 1996 to 2000 . He then became permanent representative of the Ambassador to Pakistan in 2000 and was then Head of Division at the Foreign Office between 2003 and 2007. After he was Head of the Permanent Mission to UNESCO in Paris from 2007 to 2009 , he served as Vice President and Director for Regional Security of the East-West Institute (EWI) between 2009 and 2012 as well as Head of the Brussels Office of the EWI.

From August 2012 to August 2015 was Günter Overfeld as successor to the retiring came Karl Flittner ambassador to Mali . After two years in the Foreign Office, he became Ambassador to Uzbekistan in 2017 .
