Hans Wilhelm (screenwriter)

Hans Wilhelm , also Jean Villeme (born October 18, 1904 in Berlin , † December 23, 1980 in Santa Monica ) was a German screenwriter .

The son of the actor and director Carl Wilhelm came to film at an early age through his father and began writing screenplays, initially for productions by Henny Porten , and later for the adaptation of Alfred Döblin's novel Berlin Alexanderplatz , among other things .

After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he left Germany and went through Hungary to France, then to Italy, Britain and France again. He was interned there when the war broke out in 1939, but in 1941 he was able to leave for Santo Domingo . Since 1945 he lived in Hollywood . During this time he also provided manuscripts and scripts, among others to Max Ophüls . He returned to Germany in the late 1950s, most recently living in Santa Monica again.
