Hans Züllig

Hans Züllig (born February 1, 1914 in Rorschach ; † November 8, 1992 in Essen ) was a Swiss dancer and teacher and professor of dance. From 1968 to 1983 he trained many actors in German dance theater at the Folkwang University in Essen.

Life

Züllig completed dance training at the Folkwang School in Essen from 1931 to 1934 , with Kurt Jooss and Sigurd Leeder among others . From 1932 he was a dancer with the dance company Ballets Jooss in Essen and after their emigration from 1934 to 1947 in Devon (England) . In 1949 Züllig returned to Essen with Jooss. From 1951 to 1953 he danced as a soloist at the Folkwang Tanztheater in Essen. From 1953 to 1954 Züllig was a solo dancer at the Stadttheater Zürich as well as director and teacher of the Swiss Theater Dance School affiliated with the Stadttheater. In 1954 he followed Jooss as a soloist and second ballet master at the Städtische Bühnen Düsseldorf. From 1956 to 1961 he worked as a dancer, choreographer and teacher at the University of Santiago de Chile . In 1968 Züllig, like Jooss before, was appointed professor at the Folkwang University in Essen and in 1969 head of its institute for dance. From 1973 until his death he was also head trainer at the Tanztheater Wuppertal of Pina Bausch .

Honor

Today's Folkwang University of the Arts has named its newly built dance house "Hans-Züllig-Tanzhaus".
