Hans von Schivelbein , from 1384 Hans von Wedel (* before 1351; † 1391 on the Unisław Ordensburg in Kulmerland ) was a Vogt of Neumark .

Life

Hans von Schivelbein from the von Wedel family was a son of Hasso von Wedel-Schivelbein ( Hasso the Old ) and was first mentioned in 1351. When he came of age in 1364, he inherited the rule in Schivelbein , which he held for twenty years.

He was initially favored by the Luxembourg margraves and became the last representative of his family Vogt der Neumark in the 1470s . In this capacity he had to go into debt to an extent that ultimately destroyed his livelihood. “He was faithful to the Luxembourg house, just as his father was faithful to the Wittelsbach family . But the Luxembourgers didn't thank him. The debts he had to run became more and more burdensome; he sold what was for sale from his own property ”. After his only son Hasso died in 1382 or 1383, he sold half of the Schivelbein estate to Henning von Wedel-Falkenburg on September 19, 1383, possibly with the intention of keeping them for his family. In 1384 he was forced to hand over the rest of his property to the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order . Since then he has called himself Hans von Wedel.

The contract agreed on April 14, 1384 in Elbing with the order was approved by King Wenceslaus on December 16 of the same year . Wedel and his wife, who died in 1409, were granted a lifelong pension and the Unislaw Ordensburg was assigned as their place of residence. Henning von Wedel-Falkenburg could not withstand the pressure of the order either and had to agree to vacate the Schivelbeiner Schloss on May 3rd, 1386.

The German Order of intention, as in 1402 the acquisition of the entire Neumark, with the acquisition of the Schivelbein for mercenaries sometimes uncertain and volunteers way to Prussia to secure. Schivelbein served him as the seat of the Neumark bailiwick until he acquired the rest of Neumark.
