The Hansen Inlet is an icy bay between Cape Schlossbach and Cape Cox on the Orville coast of the west Antarctic Ellsworthland .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it with the help of surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1961 and 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the bay in 1968 after Bernard Lyle Hansen (* 1916), who together with Herbert Tamotsu Ueda (* 1929) for the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) was responsible for the deep drilling program at Byrd Station between 1966 and 1969.
