Hansjörg Elshorst (born September 27, 1938 in Dortmund ) is a German sociologist .

Hansjörg Elshorst began to work in his father's construction company, then studied literature, history and philosophy in Freiburg and Munich and received his doctorate in modern literature from the philosophical faculty. Since 1958 Elshorst has been a member of the Freiburg student union KDStV Hercynia in the CV , since 1968 a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany SPD . After completing his Masters in Sociology and Economics, he taught sociology for two years at the University of Santiago del Estero . From 1970 to 1974 he worked in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development . In 1974 he was instrumental in founding the Society for Technical Cooperation . He headed this as one of three managing directors until 1995. In 1993 he was a founding member of Transparency International and between 1998 and 2002 its managing director, from 2002 to 2007 chairman of the board of Transparency Deutschland eV Since October 2003, Elshorst has been a lecturer, since 2005 an honorary professor at the University of Potsdam in the Department of International Politics. He is married and has four children and eight grandchildren.
