Hansmartin Bruckmann

Hansmartin Bruckmann (born November 27, 1931 in Stuttgart ; † June 9, 2014 in Stuttgart-Degerloch ) was a German urban planner and local politician ( SPD ).

Life

Bruckmann studied architecture and urban planning at the Technical University of Stuttgart and was from 1960 to 1966 assistant to Rolf Gutbier's chair for urban planning . In 1964 he co-founded the Urban Development Institute at the University of Stuttgart.

Bruckmann worked for the state capital Stuttgart from 1967 until his retirement in 1996. In 1967 he was initially employed by building mayor Christian Farenholtz . In 1970 he was appointed to the professorship for urban planning at the Technical University of Braunschweig , and on January 1, 1974, he changed to the position of Stuttgart's building mayor. He was re-elected in 1981 and 1989. He was also an honorary professor at the Urban Development Institute of the University of Stuttgart. He retired on November 25, 1996.

He played a major role in today's Stuttgart cityscape. He had over 50,000 apartments built and invested around 1.5 billion euros in the city's infrastructure and local public transport. He was a proponent of the Stuttgart 21 project .

Bruckmann was co-editor of Stadtbauwelt from 1968 to 1985 .
