Harald Floss (* 1960 in Cologne ) is a German prehistorian . Since 1997 he has been working at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , since 2009 as an adjunct professor .

Life

Floss studied from 1980 to 1985 at the Universities of Cologne and Berlin in the subjects of prehistory and early history (major), geology and ethnology (minor subjects). In 1985 he obtained his Magister Artium degree with his master's thesis on the subject: The Magdalenian of Andernach. Raw material and processing technology of the stone artifacts .

From 1985 to 1990 he studied for a doctorate at the University of Cologne; At the same time, Floss was a research associate in a DFG priority project entitled "Quaternary of the Eastern Eifel" and in the research area Paleolithic of the Roman-Germanic Central Museum (RGZM). He completed his doctorate in 1990 at the University of Cologne with a dissertation on the supply of raw materials in the Palaeolithic of the Middle Rhine region .

From 1991 to 1992 he enjoyed a one-year travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute (DAI). Between 1993 and 1994 Floss received a research grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with a geographic focus in the municipality of Varennes-lès-Mâcon in the Saône-et-Loire department in Burgundy. From 1994 to 1997 he continued to work with the help of a postdoctoral fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG). From 1994 to 1996 Floss was a lecturer at the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Cologne.

In 1997 he was appointed research assistant in the Department of Older Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology at the Institute for Prehistory and Early History and Archeology of the Middle Ages at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he was appointed Academic Councilor in September 2000 . In July 2003 he obtained the license to teach (habilitation) in the subject Prehistory and Protohistory at the Geoscientific Faculty of the University of Tübingen and was appointed Academic Senior Councilor in July 2006. In January 2009 he received an adjunct professorship.
