Harald Mante (born March 29, 1936 in Berlin ) is a German photo designer .

Act

Harald Mante first came into contact with photography in 1960 while studying painting with Vincent Weber at the Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden . After successfully participating in many photo competitions, the turning point came in 1964 with a three-month trip to Ireland. It marks the change from amateur to professional. This was followed by publications in Stern , Twen , Bild der Zeit , Epoca , and in the entire specialist press. For teaching activities, Harald Mante transferred the principles of image and color design developed by Kandinsky , Klee and Itten during the Bauhaus period to photography. On this basis, his first books, Bildaufbau und Farbdesign , appeared in 1969 and 1970 .

In 1971 he started teaching at the comprehensive university in Wuppertal . In 1973 he moved to the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences to become a professor for free and experimental color photography . In addition to his teaching activities, Harald Mante has always worked as a freelance photo designer. Primarily he has dealt with time and space, reflections, his own shadow and many other topics. He has also photographed and written for specialist magazines and has also commissioned country-specific picture books and other text books.

In 1988, he and his partner Eva Witter developed the large-scale photographic project Image Spaces - Diaphane Methamorphoses of Castles in Europe . In 1993 the far-sighted project followed .

In 2001 Harald Mante retired. Since then he has been involved in adult education, in addition to his free photography, at the Altenakademie Dortmund and the European Art Academy Trier , among others .

Harald Mante has been a member of the Association of Freelance Photo Designers (BFF) since 1973 and of the German Society for Photography (DGPh) since 1975 .
