Harald Schütz

Harald Schütz (* 10. March 1942 in Ingelheim am Rhein ) is a German forensic toxicologist and entpflichteter honorary professor of the University of Giessen .

Life

Harald Schütz studied chemistry at the Universities of Mainz and Giessen. He then completed a doctorate in the field of pharmacy and food chemistry at the University of Marburg in the fields of pharmacy and food chemistry and received his doctorate in 1977 under Siegfried Ebel . In 1982 he completed his habilitation in the human medicine department at the University of Giessen under Günter Schewe. Since 1972 he has worked as a forensic toxicologist at the Institute for Forensic Medicine at the University of Giessen. A longer research stay followed in 1978 at the Public Health Research Institute in Bangkok. In 1981 he received a DAAD scholarship from Gottfried Machata in Vienna and in 1985 the Ludwig Schunk Prize. In 1985 he acquired the specialist title forensic toxicologist GTFCh. He was appointed professor in 1987. For many years he was chairman of the analytics working group in the Senate Commission of the German Research Foundation for clinical-toxicological analysis. In 2017 he was made an honorary member of the German Society for Forensic Medicine (DGRM). He is married.

Focus of work

Harald Schütz mainly worked in the field of chromatographic and immunochemical screening processes for benzodiazepines, ethanol and other psychotropic substances. By the beginning of 2019 he had published over 340 scientific publications, including the monographs “Benzodiazepines - A Handbook” (Springer, Vol. I (1982) / Vol. II (1989)), “Alcohol in the Blood” (VCH 1983), “Screening of drugs and drugs with immunoassays "(3rd edition 1999)," Rechtsmedizin "(Springer 2011, 2nd edition 2014) and" Forensic Medicine "(Springer 2014), the latter together with R. Dettmeyer and M. Verhoff.
