Harald Sommer (born April 16, 1930 in Ahorn ; † October 30, 2010 in Bad Soden am Taunus ) was a German painter, porcelain painter and copyist.

Life and work

At fourteen, Sommer began training as a porcelain painter . After successfully completing his degree, at the age of 17 he was recognized as a freelance artist by the professional group “visual arts”. Harald Sommer made his master's degree in glass and porcelain painting in 1957, and in 1961 he passed the master craftsman examination in the ceramics class . In 1966, Sommer took over the decor department at Wächtersbacher Keramik . In 1972 he was appointed technical director of the re-established Höchst Porcelain Manufactory .

In his artistic life he created paintings of snow-covered Taunus landscapes and lush summer meadows. The Hundertwasserhaus in Bad Soden, the Neuenhainer Church and the Sodenia at the fountain in the Quellenpark held in summer . He portrayed citizens of Soden, copied old masters and restored paintings. Born in Franconia, he has created well over 1,000 works. They are scattered all over the world, can be found in the US , UK , Spain and Italy .

Exhibition of Russian artists

In October 1991 , shortly after the Iron Curtain fell, he realized an exhibition of the works of 23 contemporary Russian artists in Bad Soden am Taunus . For this purpose, he flew to Moscow at his own expense to prepare the presentation with 143 exhibits. It should be a homage to the historically grown connection between Russia and Soden in the heyday of the spa.
