Harald Vavrik

Harald Vavrik (born August 19, 1935 in Leoben ) is a former Austrian ambassador and former cabinet director of the Austrian Presidential Chancellery.

Life

Born in Leoben in 1935, Vavrik was an exchange student at Washington Catholic High School in Washington, DC in 1952 and then graduated from Leoben in 1953. From 1953 to 1957 he studied law at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in law. From 1957 to 1958 he studied at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and graduated with the Certificat d'Études Politiques .

In 1958 he entered the diplomatic service and worked at the headquarters in Vienna until 1961. From 1961 to 1965 he worked in the Austrian representation at international organizations in Geneva, from 1965 to 1968 for the Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry in Vienna, from 1968 to 1970 in the Embassy in Rome, from 1970 to 1973 in the Embassy in Lisbon and from 1973 to 1973 1974 first assigned to the embassy in Paris. From 1975 to 1977 he was head of the cabinet of Foreign Minister Erich Bielka in Vienna, from 1977 to 1981 ambassador in Rabat and from 1981 to 1985 ambassador in Brasilia.

From 1985 he was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna, first as head of department for bilateral economic relations and then as deputy head of section for economics. From 1992 until his retirement in 1996 he was cabinet director of the Austrian presidential chancellery for Federal President Thomas Klestil.

Private

He is the father of the former Austrian member of the National Council Christoph Vavrik .
