Initiated by the Italian Consulate General in Geneva, the Italian Embassy and the German Embassy, a large solo exhibition with 150 works by Winter was opened at the UN , Palais des Nations in Geneva , in January 2010 .

Castellabate project

The Castellabate project is an ongoing project with no commercial aspect. Works in this series are not on sale. The artist is working on a portrait of the place that also includes the constant changes. The project started in 1998. A first interim report was shown in 2001 at the Goethe Institute in Naples , supported by the Institute for Foreign Relations . Another presentation took place in 2007 in the Castello of Castellabate , under the patronage of the German Consulate, Naples . "The peculiarities of the Italian lifestyle, interpreted by a German artist, show us that we all belong to a single human family in the fundamental aspects of our existence. "

Art in public space

Monument to Wilhelm Kleemann

In 2013 the artist was commissioned to design a memorial for the Jewish banker Wilhelm Kleemann, who was born in Forchheim in 1869. Kleemann lived in Berlin until 1933 and was a. a. Chairman of the local Jewish community. In 1940 he emigrated to New York. Winter created a walk-in, interactive monument in Kleemann's hometown. In the sidewalk of Wilhelm-Kleemann-Weg, he laid a 5.50 m long granite strip with inlaid stainless steel letters. In addition, a stele with a chiseled QR code enables access to a website dedicated to Kleemann's life.

Well of time

The artist designed the time fountain for the Forchheim station square . The work is based on the idea of relating flowing water and flowing time and thus encouraging those waiting to reflect on the essence of time. Granite blocks set up in a semicircle, the height of which increases in line with the past, serve as "hour columns" from which water flows. In combination with small fountains that are activated one after the other every 5 minutes, it is also possible to read the time. The fountain was given to the city of Forchheim in March 2003 by Dieter George on behalf of the Forchheim Heimatverein .

Topsy-Turvy / works on paper

“Both in terms of content and style, these works by Winter are layered, mixing fragmentary ideas and free thought games that overlap each other, so that diverse levels of meaning emerge. At first glance, they may seem playful, but on closer inspection they are witty and funny, also touch the darker sides, or address current social or political events.

In the 30-minute slideshow, “If you would please look to the left!” From 2012, the artist pursues this principle further. The 62 works that can be seen in the slideshow are created in a similar way. However, he adds another element with the sounds that can be heard. With the projection, he also chooses a different form of presentation that allows the work to be shown outside the museum or a gallery.

Project inside outside

A project for the Zionskirche Berlin. For this purpose, the artist created a graphic portrait of the Zionskirchplatz. The result was published in October 2016 in the form of a graphic portfolio, accompanied by a three-month exhibition in the Zionskirche Berlin.

painting

Again and again the artist deals with large format painting. After the already mentioned Nine People from the Province from 1981 (oil on canvas, 200 cm × 350 cm) and various individual portraits, works such as the devotional picture from 1983 (oil on canvas, 200 cm × 300 cm) and the Sunday walk from 1990 were created (Oil on canvas, 210 cm × 440 cm, private property) or The Way to Pioppi from 2004 (oil on canvas, 200 cm × 300 cm, private property), in which the painter deals with the landscape. In his most recent picture from 2014, Die Lage der Dinge (oil on canvas, 143 cm × 200 cm), one of the few large-format still lifes, he ironically comments on the content overload.
