Harley Frances Flanagan (born March 8, 1967 in San Francisco ) is an American musician of the New York hardcore scene .

Life

Flanagan's mother was a bartender at the New York punk and new wave club "Tier 3", which brought him into contact with the local music scene at an early age. As a twelve-year-old, Flanagan played as a drummer in the punk band The Stimulators . There he got out, however, because he wanted to play heavier music , inspired mainly by the Bad Brains and Lemmy Kilmister . Together with Dave Hahn (formerly manager of the Bad Brains), John Berry (founding member of the Beastie Boys ) and Dave Stein from Even Worse , he founded the Cro-Mags , this time as bassist . In the mid-1980s, Flanagan was a founding member of the hardcore band Murphy's Law . Here he played the drums again. However, the Cro-Mags were in the foreground for him and Flanagan left Murphy's Law again. In the early 1990s, Flanagan left the Cro-Mags. These dissolved shortly afterwards. Flanagan formed the group White Devil with Cro-Mags guitarist Parris Mayhew and ex- biohazard guitarist Bobby Hambel, which was later renamed Samsara. In 1998 they called themselves Cro-Mags and released an album. In 2001 they disbanded. Flanagan devoted himself to a solo project he called Harley's War . In 2003 and 2012 an album was released, in 2009 an EP with the participation of several well-known hardcore musicians. In 2016, Flanagan published his autobiography, Hard-Core: Life of My Own .

In 2012 Flanagan broke into the VIP area at the CBGB Festival in New York's Webster Hall and injured then Cro-Mags bassist Mike “The Gook” Couls and another person with a knife. He was arrested and the concert was canceled.

In April 2019, Flanagan won a lawsuit that began in May 2018 for the rights to the band name "Cro-Mags".
