The Harpon Bay is a small bay on the north coast of South Georgia . It is located immediately east of Mercer Bay in the southern part of Cumberland West Bay .
It was first mapped during the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjöld . The South Georgia Survey surveyed the bay between 1951 and 1957 . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after the cargo ship Harpon , which was used since 1922 for the fishing company Compañía Argentina de Pesca in Grytviken , founded by Carl Anton Larsen .
