The Harrison Bluff is a headland in light Trachyt on the west coast of the Antarctic Ross Island . As a lake-side extension of Trachyte Hill , it marks the southern end of McDonald Beach on the west side of Mount Bird .
In the northwest corner of the cliff , EB Fitzgerald of the Cape Bird Group set up a land surveying station marked by a pile of stones as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition, which was carried out from 1958 to 1959 . The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1961 after John Harrison (1932-1966), one of New Zealand's best mountaineers and mountaineer assistants on this expedition.
