Harry Cordwell

Harry Cordwell (* 1922 in Barton upon Irwell , Lancashire , England , † 1995 in London Borough of Camden , England) was a British production designer .

Life

Cordwell began his career in 1946 with acting roles in several BBC television productions. In the following year he worked, also for the BBC, for the first time as a production designer. In 1968 he worked for the first time on the film staff on a feature film; for the film drama Isadora was Vanessa Redgrave for an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. After a few other British films and US co-productions, including Victor / Victoria , for which he received his first Oscar nomination, Cordwell moved to the United States. There he was awarded an Emmy in 1987 for his production design for the miniseries Society . He was nominated a second time for an Oscar in 1988 for Empire of the Sun .

After his last film, Land of the Black Sun , he retired from the film business in 1990.
