Harry Koch (born on September 2, 1930 in Rüti ZH ; died on April 23, 2012 in Küsnacht ) was a Swiss football player and player-coach. During his career he played for FC Rapperswil-Jona , FC Zurich , Grasshoppers and FC Winterthur, among others . He was employed as a player- coach for the Blue Stars Zurich for five years . He was called up for the Swiss national team nine times.

Career

Harry Koch played for juniors at FC Rapperswil-Jona . In addition to football, at the age of 15 he was also a founding member of the Rapperswil ice skating club.

Also at the age of 15 he played in the 1945/46 season for the first time as a striker in the 1st team of Rapperswil in the 3rd division. From there, Koch moved to FC Zurich in 1947 in the National League A, where he played mostly as a defender from 1952 to 1955. Then he switched to the Grasshopper Club Zurich , with whom he won the double in 1956 (Swiss champions and cup winners). After a broken leg, Koch was unable to make his comeback at GC and moved to FC Winterthur in the summer of 1959 , for which he played until 1963 - two years of which until the Eulachstädter's relegation in the National League A.

In 1963 he was hired by the Blue Stars Zurich from the third class first division as a player- coach first division. With the Zurich team he made it to the National League B.

During his time in Zurich and Winterthur, between 1952 and 1959, he played a total of nine international matches for the Swiss national team. He was also on the field on November 21, 1956 in a 3-1 win against the then reigning world champions Germany .
