Hart van Windhoek ( German about Windhoek's Heart ) was an Afrikaans music festival in the Namibian capital Windhoek . It was held annually between 2010 and 2014 on two days in September or October. The main sponsor was the South African magazine Huisgenoot .
history
Hart van Windhoek started in 2010 at the Wanderers Sports Ground in Windhoek-Academia . Due to the large number of spectators in the first year, it was decided to move to the Doc-Jubber hockey field in Windhoek-Olympia .
Audience development
In the first year of the event, 2010, around 15,000 fans of Afrikaans music came to the festival. In 2011 the number rose to 17,000 visitors. In 2012 around 15,000 visitors again visited the event. In 2013 the number of fans fell to 10,000 to 12,000, but according to the organizers this was up to 20,000 visitors. In 2014, 14,000 people attended the festival.
Participating musicians
Below is a selection of participating musicians at Hart van Windhoek. Up to 65 musicians and music groups took part in each festival. Many came back every year. Mostly Namibian and international musicians performed on Friday, and South African artists on Saturday. In 2011 the Irish band Westlife played as an international top act .
