Academia is a suburb of Windhoek and is located in the southwest of the city. Academia is bordered by Pionierspark to the north and by the Eros airport in Suiderhof to the east . Due to the expansion towards the south to the Western Bypass , Academia is currently (as of June 2016) being enlarged by 309 properties . It has (as of 2011) 2452 inhabitants on an area of ​​2.43 square kilometers.

Academia was named after the "community of students and scholars in the field of higher education at colleges and universities as well as in research", because here, in addition to the main campus and headquarters of the University of Namibia , the Academia Secondary School and the Technical High are located School Windhoek (HTS; originally Afrikaans Hoer Tegniese Skool ) two of the city's largest secondary schools are located. The streets were therefore mainly named after inventors , artists and scholars .
