The mouse vetch ( Vicia narbonensis L. ), also known as black broad bean , is a species of plant from the genus vetch ( Vicia ) in the subfamily of the butterflies (Faboideae) within the legume family (Fabaceae). It should not be with the species Vicia johannis Tamamsch. (Syn .: Vicia narbonensis auct.) Can be confused.

The mouse vetch is a sub-Mediterranean-Mediterranean floral element . The mouse vetch occurs in the Mediterranean area and has rarely been introduced to Central Europe.

Vicia narbonensis was first published in 1753 by Carl von Linné in Species Plantarum , Volume 2, p. 737.
