Hartmann Tyrell

Hartmann Tyrell (* 1943 in Dresden ) is a German sociologist.

Tyrell was born as the son of the doctor Paul Tyrell (1906–1949) from Ahaus and was baptized a Roman Catholic with the name "Paul-Hartmann". From 1965 to 1972 he studied sociology , history and art history in Münster . In 1971 he received his doctorate from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. phil. In 1972 he became a research assistant at Bielefeld University . He later became a professor of the theory and history of sociology at Bielefeld University. From 2000 to 2008 he was editor of the Zeitschrift für Soziologie . One of his main research areas is the sociology of religion .
