Hartmut Berlin (* 12. January 1950 in East Berlin as Thorsten brewmaster ) is a German satirist . In 1978 he became editor and from 1990 to 2004 editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine Eulenspiegel .

Life

Thorsten Braumeister grew up in Berlin in Prenzlauer Berg . Here he attended the Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium from 1965 to 1968 . Even in his early youth he was interested in curiosities of all kinds and ran a small collection of bizarre newspaper articles. Following his basic training with the NVA , Braumeister signed up for the Navy of the National People's Army and made it up to midshipman during his three-year service. After serving in the army, he had grown tired of the military drill. So he decided to study the humanities. Braumeister studied German and history at the Humboldt University in Berlin and published his first short stories, glosses and erotic poems under his pseudonym Hartmut Berlin in a student journal operated by the FDJ . By chance, the then editor-in-chief of 'Eulenspiegel', Hans-Georg Stengel, saw this work, met with master brewer and offered him a job in the magazine. Braumeister seized the opportunity and over time became a nationally known satirist in the GDR.

After the reunification, Braumeister / Berlin became co-owner of Eulenspiegel GmbH; In 1990 the editorial staff elected him editor-in-chief; after 2004, Mathias Wede l took over this function . Today Hartmut Berlin and Jürgen Nowak are editors of the 'Eulenspiegel'.
