Hartmut Binder

Hartmut Binder (born July 22, 1937 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German Germanist who has researched mainly on Franz Kafka and German literature in Prague .

Life

From 1973 to 2000, Binder was professor of German literature at the Ludwigsburg University of Education . He has written numerous books and essays on German literature in Prague, for example on Oskar Baum , Rainer Maria Rilke , Johannes Urzidil , Franz Werfel , Ernst Weiß and above all on Franz Kafka.

His commentary volumes on Kafka's novels and stories and the Kafka Handbook (1979) which he edited are considered "standard works of research". In addition to numerous other books, Binder is the author of the extensive visual documentation "Kafka's World" published in 2008; in 2009 an extensive biography about Gustav Meyrink was published .
