Hartmut Ilsemann (born December 18, 1944 in Wackerfeld , Schaumburg-Lippe ) is a German Anglist . Until his retirement in the 2009/2010 winter semester, he taught English literature and cultural studies at Leibniz University in Hanover .

life and work

Ilsemann attended the Ratsgymnasium in Stadthagen and studied English, geography, pedagogy and philosophy at the universities of Hanover and Bristol in Great Britain from 1967 to 1971 .

After the state examination and his doctorate as Dr. phil. on the influence of puritanism and pragmatism on the essays and novels by Charles Percy Snow , he was entrusted with professorship in teaching and research according to the NHG since 1982. His research focused on the theory and analysis of drama with increasing specialization in quantitative statistical approaches, some of which were reflected in web pages such as Shakespeare Statistics and the drama analysis program IDAP (Internet Drama Analysis Program). His stylometric proof that a number of apocryphal dramatic texts from the late 16th century were written by Shakespeare and that the lost years in Shakespeare's biography are no longer considered uncertain was noticed. In contrast, he saw Christopher Marlowe's work confirmed only in the two Tamerlan parts and the apocryphal drama Locrine .
