Hartmut Redlich (2017)

Hartmut G. Redlich (born September 19, 1943 in Wreschen near Posen ) is a German chemist ( organic chemistry ) who is a professor at the University of Münster and who deals with the chemistry of carbohydrates and the synthesis of natural substances .

Redlich acquired his diploma in 1970 in Hamburg and was founded in 1974 with Hans Paulsen at the University of Hamburg PhD ( synthesis of the four isomeric Methylaldgaroside: Structure determination of Methylaldgarosids B from Aldgamycin E ) and habilitated in 1983 in Hamburg ( Chiral building blocks of carbohydrates ). In 1985 he became a professor in Hamburg and in 1991 in Münster.

He dealt with the synthesis of enantiomerically pure natural products and in this context with the development of chiral building blocks for the synthesis from carbohydrates. When synthesizing natural substances, his goals included pheromones and antibiotics . Since the biologically important active ingredients are mostly stereoisomers , a stereoselective synthesis is of crucial importance. In addition to the development of methods of preparative carbohydrate chemistry, he is also concerned with novel reactions on and with carbohydrates .
