Hartmut Stegemann (theologian)

Hartmut Stegemann (born December 18, 1933 in Gummersbach , † August 22, 2005 in Marburg ) was a German theologian , a representative of New Testament science and above all a Qumran researcher .

Stegemann was in 1963 in Heidelberg to the Dr. phil. (Semitic Studies and Religious Studies), graduated from Bonn in 1965 as Dr. theol. In 1969 he qualified as a professor in Bonn for the subject of the New Testament.

In 1971 he was appointed professor at the Philipps University of Marburg , and in 1980 as the successor to Hans Conzelmann at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , where he taught until the end of the 2005 summer semester after his retirement.

Stegemann had worked in Heidelberg at the Qumran Research Center headed by Karl Georg Kuhn , which he transferred to Marburg in 1971 and to Göttingen in 1980, where he headed it until his retirement. He was one of the world's leading Qumran researchers, belonged to the circle of editors who always had access to the originals kept in Jerusalem . a. a method named after him for the reconstruction of scrolls.

Stegemann was married to the Islamic scholar Ursula Spuler-Stegemann .
