Hartmut Warkuß (* 1940 in Breslau ) is a German automobile designer .

Career

After training as a metal engraver , Warkuß initially worked for Daimler-Benz and Ford before moving to Audi NSU Auto Union AG in Ingolstadt in 1969 . For a long time, Warkuß shaped the appearance of Audi vehicles, especially the generations of the Audi 100 that appeared in 1976 and 1982, as well as the transition to the premium manufacturer.

In 1993 Warkuß moved to Wolfsburg in the position of chief designer at Volkswagen AG . The first vehicle he designed for VW is the Passat B5 sedan. He is also responsible for the timeless design of the VW Golf IV . His last design for VW was the Phaeton , released in 2002 . Highly acclaimed designs for Bugatti followed by 2003 .
