The Harvard Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in the Chugach National Forest about 120 km east of Anchorage .
geography
The 40 km long Harvard Glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 2,400 m on the north and south flanks of Mount Thor in the Chugach Mountains . From there it flows in a west-southwest direction. In the south it is flanked by the Dora Keen Range , which separates it from the Yale Glacier , which runs further southeast . It finally flows into the College Fjord , a side bay of the Prince William Sound . The mean glacier width is 2.8 km. About 6 km above the lower end of the glacier, the Radcliffe Glacier meets the Harvard Glacier from the right and forms with it a 2.5 km wide glacier tongue .
Glacier development
The Harvard Glacier is one of the few glaciers that is expanding. Since 1909 the glacier tongue has advanced 1.25 km into the bay.
