The Yale Glacier is a 30 km long glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in the Chugach National Forest 125 km east of Anchorage .
geography
The nutrient area is located at an altitude of 2700 m in the Chugach Mountains flanked by Mount Witherspoon in the northwest and Mount Einstein in the southeast. In the northeast it borders on the nutrient area of the Columbia Glacier . The Yale Glacier flows in a west-southwest direction. To the north it is flanked by the Dora Keen Range , which separates it from the Harvard Glacier , which runs further northwest . The Yale Glacier finally flows into the College Fjord , a side bay of Prince William Sound . The mean glacier width is 2.4 km.
Glacier development
The Yale Glacier is in retreat. Since 1937 the glacier tongue has withdrawn 3.7 km from the bay.
Naming
The glacier was named after the University of Yale in 1899 by the Harriman-Alaska Expedition .
